On the playground there are visible barriers that prevent those with disabilities from joining in on the fun. Specifically with wheelchair accessible swings, current designs force isolation from the rest of the play area and require supervision or permission to set up and use the apparatus. These ‘solutions’ towards improving the quality of play discourage the active participation of those with disabilities, a fact further accentuated by the cold and bleak designs put into practice.
